Preparing for Entry

Entering the New Zealand Innovation Awards is easy – and it’s all done online so you don’t even need to leave your Batcave!

Step One: Choose Your Categories

Before you start it's a good idea to choose your INDUSTRY CATEGORIES. There are 12 industry categories and you can enter a separate entry for up to three of them. From what you tell us, you will automatically be entered into any applicable BUSINESS CATEGORIES, such as Excellence in Social Innovation, Young NZ Innovator and Export Innovator of the Year – you can leave that part up to us!

Step Two: Draft Your Entry

There’s nothing worse than completing your entire entry only to lose all of your hard work. To safeguard against this tragedy, we recommend that you draft and save your entry in a Word document before uploading it online. So we have prepared this helpful ENTRY TEMPLATE. This also means you can spread the process out over a few days, rather than having to complete it all at once.

You have the option to include a video in your entry. Our friends at 90seconds have put a package together for you should you want to create a video as part of your entry. This is by no mean compulsory but it could be a great tool for you to have on file. For $1500 plus GST they’ll work with you on creating a 60 second live action video (no animation). But wait, there’s more, we have also developed some EVALUATION CRITERIA to help you craft your entry and showcase your great innovation to the evaluators.

Step Three: Enter Online

Once you are happy with your draft entry simply copy and paste the information into the ENTRY FORM. Please note that the online form is made up of plain text boxes - you are not able to include links/URLs, images or bullet points in your written answers. Save these for the PDF, website link or video you can choose to include.

If you would like to enter more than one category you will be prompted to re-enter once you submit your first entry. You will pay for all entries when you reach the payment area. Entries will close at 5pm on Friday 4th August.

Step Four: Confirm and Pay

Once you have completed your entry, follow the instructions on the screen to confirm and then pay for your entry via credit card (each entry is $75.00+GST). You will be sent a GST tax invoice by email to confirm your payment.

Step Five: Yayyy Finished!

You've successfully entered the 2017 NZ Innovation Awards. Nice work!

Quick Tips for Entry

  • Tell us a story! Share your customer story and your core purpose. Video can be really helpful for this.
  • Categories matter. Get smart about which industry categories you choose to enter. Ask yourself what is the 'innovation' here, and what areas does it have an impact in? We can help you narrow this down.
  • What's your market? Provide a clear picture of your markets, and their size and scale. The more market information you can provide, the better!
  • Show us the money! Provide a short summary of financial data, or forecasting with supporting data. Be honest about if it is forecasted or actual data.
  • Share your vision. Innovation is also about impact and vision - tell us how your innovation is having a positive impact.
